Thanks, everyone, for the birthday wishes!
autismmom,
blackchaps,
craterdweller,
mustangcandi,
phoenixastraea,
positronika,
syredronning, and
theantipam all sent birthday messages, and I got two Spock-themed (I have no idea why) cards from
trekwriter (a fascinating e-card) and
illariy (a very logical handmade card sent the old-fashioned way all the way from Germany). *squishy hugs all round*
That's another year gone. My workmates brought chocolate cake and someone bought me flowers. Aww. My boss told me I could leave all the Really Annoying Customers to my workmates for the day. Unfortunately, the Really Annoying Customers heard about this and waited until my workmates were all at lunch and I was in the office alone before they came in. *dramatic eyeroll* Otherwise a good day, though.
In other news, our office is in the middle of a major redecoration. They're knocking holes in walls, inserting mezzanine floors and generally making a mess. Some previously undiscovered rodent neighbours made an appearance through the newly installed holes, but were fairly quickly evicted. The painters are in at the moment, suffocating us with paint fumes and then freezing us to death by a) opening all the doors and windows on some of the coldest days of the year and b) removing all of our radiator heaters (so they can paint behind them). Yesterday, the warmest place to be was the [unheated] loo. I'm not surprised everyone was making excuses to go so often.

Things like this always seem to irritate me much more than they should.
We love our Aussie neighbours, we really do (I'm clearly not counting any trans-Tasman sporting events here), but for the love of all things tall, dark and pointy-eared, would it kill the people who compile/edit these things to get it right?
ETA: Yahoo fixed it. Within 24 hours. Apparently, a few angry Kiwis canchange the world get things sorted.
Oh, and since it's been fixed (and this post will no longer make sense to the uninitiated) I'll inform first-time readers that the linked picture had a title and caption identifying the New Zealand Olympic team as Australians.

Because someone had to do it.
The scary thing is, once I matched the two pics for size, the nose, the lips, the hairline, everything lined up automatically. Although, Quinto has wider eyesand they still haven't quite tamed the Sybrows.
If I'd spent more than 5 minutes on it I might've tried to match the colours/contrast better... but a) I couldn't be bothered and b) I kinda like it. Oh, and c) when I did blend the faces a bit more it actually looked weirder.

This was my car this morning. Solid ice on wheels. The doors were frozen shut (for some reason, the driver's door always gets the worst of it and I end up having to climb over from the passenger side because it refuses to open) and the windscreen iced over within seconds of me throwing tepid water over it.

At breakfast, our kitchen thermometer was reading 7.2°C. That was the temperature inside the house. I kid you not.
I'm so tempted to jump on a plane and fly to some place where it's Summer1.
On the plus side, while the icy roads in town made the morning commute more than a little scary, the crisp, white frost blanketing the river gorge (where our train goes) was quite pretty.
1. Current indicators that this may not happen include a lack of sufficient funds and the need to actually turn up at work occasionally in order to earn said funds.

I just posted another bunch of icons over at
cowsparkle. They're basically older icons I (hopefully) never got around to posting before.
41 icons of the usual suspects (Star Trek:TOS, Nimoy + other cast) and a few of the new baby Spock, Zachary Quinto.

Everything's taking forever because I'm borrowing my family's dial-up account (I'm on holiday, yay), but I posted 107 Spock icons over here.
... well, not all the time *yawn*, but sometimes.
This is the train our company runs.

Not a great photo, I know, but it was taken from the #@%&^ing loco cab!!!111!! When I was being co-driver forthe day! about ¾ of an hour. I got to toot the horn before every tunnel and I had to press the vigilance button (dead man's switch) every 3 minutes - if the engine staff fail to do this, a buzzer goes off and, eventually, all the brakes go on...
I was 5 years old for the rest of the day.
p.s. I tooted the horn!

I am loving this-->

Especially cool is the way Nimoy still does the eyebrow thing and the Spock!Pout™. And then he's smiling and locking lips with every lady in sight (Shatner influence, yo) and tossing around phony accents like a set of slippery juggling balls. Awesome.
And there's all these fake nations with vague names like The People's Republic and another one (which I forget) which sounds like a brand of soap. And every place they go to looks exactly like The People's Republic of Paramount Studios. And every second episode has a Star Trek actor in it. And my ridiculous fangirling is causing me to start every sentence with 'and'. My bad.
Spock Nimoy is hawt as Paris. The rest of the cast is pretty, too. Paramount was certainly turning out plenty of awesome in the 60s/70s. *considers bunking off work to watch some more*

Okay, so now it's... Happy 77th Birthday to Leonard Nimoy. May The Shat and The Nimster Mr Nimoy both live long(er) and prosper (some more). At least long enough for me to see them together in RL one day. *fangirls from afar*
